Club Patio Day and The New Philly Sound 2025
The Heart of Jazz debuts The New Philly Sound 2025 at Orrin Evans’ Club Patio Day — our newest Heart of Jazz band made up of extraordinary young artists with Philadelphia area roots. The band is made up of two Julliard students (Aidan McKeon and Ace Yuji Williams) and three Temple students (Mehki Boone, Ry Miller and Justin Griggs). This band is a quintet of the finest current university student jazz musicians who have roots in the greater Philadelphia area.
The day also features The William Paterson University Septet which includes talented recipients of The Heart of Jazz Scholarship: Troy Bell on guitar, Roberto Cisneros on trumpet, Violet Mujica also on trumpet, and James Ambrose on sax.
Both groups embody our mission: to promote jazz, build community, and nurture emerging artists — and they’ll be sharing the stage thanks to the generosity of legendary Philly pianist Orrin Evans, who is committed to giving young musicians a platform to promote their sound.
Club Patio Day is a yearly tradition hosted by Orrin Evans’ Imani Records All Stars and The Captain Black Big Band. You won’t want to miss this amazing day of incredible jazz!
